GHOST HOBO
[Shota Matsumura & Andrew Fedorovich]
present an evening of film and performance with
IVEY WAWN and
ANTHONY GUERRA
"Whenever I have, in all humility, moved
Amid dire forests of fact, unproved and overproved,
Then only the incomprehensible thing has vividness of hue
And only the unutterable is true.
There's weariness in the columned and tabular shame
Of elaborate amplification of law half-discerned
Which from their thrones of authority the hooded doctors declaim
So I light my path with a candle lit from the altar that burned
In the deep arbours of vision, remote and untended.
And there I return for solace to things only apprehended,
The uncapturable, the indefinable thing, the unlearned."
Frank Wilmot (1881 - 1942)
The Namadgi National Park, acoustic guitars, field recordings, ambient minimalism, improvisation, minimalist aesthetics - it's all at the People's Republic this coming Sunday and it's your only opportunity to witness a unique evening curated by the wonderfully talented...
Murramarang is a film about listening and the sonic richness of Australia's south-east coast, in a remnant of the seemingly endless forests that once covered the land before colonisation. Listen as the forest glow at dawn and the quiet buzz of a moonlit rainforest at night.
Jeremy Hegge is an artist interested in the trance capabilities of sound and vision.
Anthony Guerra plays guitar and taishogoto and sings. He is a member of the groups Love Chants, Your Intestines, Galah Galah Galah, Antipan, Mysteries of Love, Vodka Sparrows and Life Groove Orchestra, and also plays in duos with Joel Stern, Patrick O'Brien and Mark Sadgrove. He has run the label Black Petal since 2005, and prior to that co-ran the label TwoThousandAnd. He has released music on labels including RIP Society, Quemada, BreakdanceTheDawn, Alberts Basement, A Binary Datum, Digitalis, PseudoArcana and Ftarri.
Ghost Hobo is the duo of local artists Shota Matsumura and Andrew Fedorovitch. They perform with acoustic guitars and unamplifed voices. They have releases on the labels Black Petal and Break Dancing the Dawn as well as self-released material, and they have performed in Sydney and Melbourne.
Ivey Wawn's choreographic work is centred around deep considerations and analysis of political systems and resource distribution. Her practice embraces dancing, doing, drawing, thinking, projecting, reproducing, regressing, watching, writing, waiting, mapping, planning, enacting and more. In 2016 Ivey was supported by the Australia Council to participate in the DanceWEB Scholarship as part of ImPulsTanz Festival, Vienna. She has worked with CRACK Theatre Festival, AirSpace Projects, Shopfront Contemporary Arts, ReadyMade Works, ALASKA Projects, Critical Path, DirtyFeet, Ian Potter Cultural Trust, Ausdance NSW, The NOW now, Underbelly Arts Festival and Bundanon Trust.
