Trio Nueva es Norte + Chasing the Dreams at The Servo

  • Servo Food Truck Bar 6-8 Wentworth St Port Kembla, NSW, 2505 Australia (map)

Trio Nueva es Norte is the Anti-Honk Festival that the Honk Festival needs. What would Matter be without anti-Matter? Freeze without antifreeze, Or Christ without the antiChrist? What would the Honk Festival be without Trio Nueva es Norte?

Saxophonist/clarinetist Joe Glaysher has assembled an improvising trio that will explore territory not yet imagined in Wollongong.

Melbourne saxophonist Rod Gregory, a contestant in Improv Idol is a regular visitor to the Honk Festival. For his first visit he was billeted with Joe. His alcohol consumption doubled for the period of the festival, while Joe's was halved.

Violinist Jane Aubourg encountered Joe at the Servo and bravely agreed to participate without knowing what she was letting herself in for. The words "trust me, I'm a musician" were heard.

Sun legend Gary Norwell will join the ensemble on drums and Clayton Thomas - who raised nearly $15000 by playing a rather long double bass solo in Hobart a couple of years ago, so we can only assume he's a bit short at the moment - has answered the call also. He' got another NOWnow Festival coming up just around the corner.

Chasing the Dreams, the Chinese music trio of guzheng and guqin player Maria Wang and guitarist Peter Fenwick will bring a breath of sanity in the intermission set.

Trio Norte es Nueva in the third set will combine members of both ensembles in unexpected ways.
