MARCUS WHALE is known as one half of electronic-pop duo Collarbones, and as an accomplished solo artist and composer whose work focuses on the intersection between desire and religion. Marcus has had works presented by Performance Space, Sugar Mountain Festival, Underbelly Arts Festival and Art Month Sydney. In addition, he has composed for screen (including for Jane Campion’s Top of the Lake) and stage (for choreographer Martin Del Amo, performance artists Jess Olivieri and Ivan Cheng). Marcus has developed new sound works over summer to perform at SS3.
KUSUM NORMOYLE is a musician and artist working with voice for performance, video and installation. She has performed and exhibited across Europe and the Pacific, and locally as part of Dark Mofo and Primavera at the Museum of Contemporary Art amongst others. At SS3, Kusum will present material from a new and slowly developing studio project based on hardware instruments before relocating to Berlin. She is one half of duos HVISKE (Siberia Records) and Hard Hat.
HEATHER SHANNON is a musician and composer known for her work as one quarter of internationally renowned independent rock band, The Jezabels. She has spent the past decade writing and recording award-winning albums and performing in venues such as Sydney Opera House, The O2 Arena (London), Webster Hall (New York) and at festivals such as Lollapalooza (Chicago), and Glastonbury (UK). A Sydney Conservatorium of Music graduate with a Bachelor in Piano Performance, Heather is also a highly regarded classical composer, having her original pieces performed by Australian Chamber Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Heather was also a recipient of the Nes Artist Residency in the North of Iceland where she wrote a collection of solo piano pieces that she will perform at SS3.
SHOEB AHMAD has been creating idiosyncratic sounds in the Australian music underground for over a decade, primarily as a solo artist and a former member of Tangents. Shoeb’s discography also spans sound design for dance/theatre, installation pieces and contemporary chamber compositions for some of Australia’s largest art galleries and theatre companies. At SS3, they will collaborate with percussionist LUKE KEANAN-BROWN for the debut performance of sia.lkb, an improvised set that will feature guitar, percussion and various electronics.
KCIN is the music project of drummer/producer Nicholas Meredith, a recent FBi Radio Independent Artist of the Week with music released on the esteemed Hospital Hill records. His soundscapes – dense with electronic and digital elements – offer a personal reflection on the physical world and themes such as climate change, making him an ideal fit for this fundraiser concert.
We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land that this event takes place on, the Gadigal people of the Eora nation. We pay our respect to the Elders of the community, both past and present.
