Fountain Chorus – Performance at COMA Gallery

  • 73 Stanley Street Darlinghurst, NSW, 2010 Australia (map)

Walk in between sounds formed from first meeting and improvised convergence. One fountain with many voices spurting. A collaborative sounding, choreographed onwards, never sure if it is cycling. A theme and variation on sonic conversation over three hours.

Over three hours a series of performances will top and tail each other to form a long-form, through composed concert. Featuring performances from Ailsa & Lia, Laura Hunt, Mara, Wanderlust, and Harrison Rae.

$15 / $20

3pm – 6pm

Lia and Ray

Lia and Ray will be improvising on electronic software & violin. They are exploring the avenue of found sound and manipulated field recordings, & will present a soundscape with Ailsa’s contributed samples, playing with layering sound, ideas of stillness, slowness and surprise

Laura Hunt is an electronic musician and mixed media artist based in Eora. Hunt’s work invests in the body as a channel, a conduit for change where the human experience can be more than meets the eye. Her work uses spoken poetry, solfeggio frequencies, subliminal messages, hardware sampling and water to create music that shifts through rhythmic and textural forms. Water is a commonality in Hunt’s work - a force of life, destruction and constant change.

Mara is a composer and curator based in Eora / Sydney. She plays the viola and collaborates with her laptop to create live performances and recorded pieces for film, dance, and gallery spaces. Informed by interactions and perspectives within environments, her work questions the coexistence and understanding between those who inhabit them.

Wanderlust is the musical project of Xanthe Waite (Primo, Terry), Ivona Alavanja, Angelica Waite (G2g) and Greta Balog (G2g, Greta Now, DEN).

The group was formed by Angelica and Ivona during the Sydney lockdown period in 2021, when the two would meet within their 5K radius and write music for keyboard, drum machine, guitar, brass and bass. They were then joined by Xanthe and Greta in early 2022.

Lyrically, their music invites listeners to ponder relationships between friends, deserts, killers, freaks and going out, whilst remaining sparse in sound. Trumpet blasts over the top of dissonant riffs and xylophonic keyboards, leaving the three vocals of Ivona, Angelica and Greta to singtalk rhythmically underneath everything, sometimes in Yugoslavian.

Harrison Rae is an artist based on Gadigal country working at the interzone of experimental sound and dance music.
