Melanie Oxley and Chris Abrahams Single Launch

Melanie Oxley and Chris Abrahams invite you to celebrate the launch of their first single ‘Something about you’ from their forthcoming new album ‘Moment of Truth’.

They will be performing new music from ‘Moment of Truth’ as well as tracks from their previous releases, Resisting Calm, Welcome to Violet, Coal, Jerusalem Bay and Blood Oranges. A night not to be missed. ‘Oxley is one of our most underrated vocalist with a distinctive searching range. Similarly, Abrahams’ intuitive ways – best known as part of the spellbinding instrumentalists The Necks – …. a delicate balance of composure and fluidity.’ (Khedoori). Their music gently unfolds before you as classic. Lyrically thoughtful, playful and clever, musically deceptively simple. Abrahams extraordinary talent reveals itself in every facet of every song while Oxley’s voice continues to uplift and beguile. Extraordinary

‘Moment of Truth’, their 6th studio album, released early 2023, continues to tread the articulate and soulful pop path laid down by their previous releases. There’s an ominous undertone to their recordings—always accessible and engaging—that weaves its way with instances of unfiltered emotion sitting comfortably alongside the darkly comic in a deftly performed and orchestrated collection of songs.

Alongside this single release, Chris & Melanie have released their entire back catalogue on all digital platforms on their own Remote Music. As well as the four albums and one EP, there is a new compilation released called “Selection”, a compilation of tracks from previous albums. Chris & Melanie chose all the tracks and it’s a perfect introduction to the duo.

To bring you up to date…..In December 1990 Melanie Oxley and Chris Abrahams released their now classic E.P., Resisting Calm. November 1992 saw the release of their critically acclaimed debut album, Welcome to Violet.

"Most of the drive here is textural, from......dense, rhythmic blurred.....to.....classic soul groove." The Guide, S.M.H.

In October 1994 they released their second album, Coal.

“Oxley’s smoky vocals....Abrahams vivid keyboard etchings... the results are stunning.” Aust. Hi Fi.

“Coal continues to tread the articulate and soulful pop path laid by 1992’s Welcome to Violet.......uncluttered heaven-sent melodies.” Juice.

June 1998, Jerusalem Bay was released.

“Melanie Oxley and Chris Abrahams’ third full length album develops the understated, rich songwriting and performance that has earnt them acclaim.....contemplative rather than melancholic, accessible and engaging once you are drawn in there’s an ominous undertone always more to a song than first meets the ear - by now you’re in too deep to resist” A.L.Huntley S.M.H. Metro July 1998.

Blood Oranges the fourth studio album was released in April 2003 on Vitamin Records. The Age's Michael Dwyer described their sound as "sophisticated, sometimes jazz-tinted pop".
