Laurence is an artist/musician living and working on Gadigal land. He will play a piece for piano with motorised guitar accompaniment.
Peter Farrar, MP Hopkins and Jim Denley have been serendipitously meeting to play regularly the last year or so, in the context of being regular members of the Splinter Orchestra, although this will be the first time they have performed together as a trio. Peter these days is interested in producing micro weather systems where sound is generated by pressure differentials in containers heated on hot plates that are unpredictably sealed and unsealed by water — it is a delicate and unpredictable enfolding of 'natural' gasps and utterances energised by pressure difference. Pneumatic expression is powered by Jim's lungs, and articulated in a diverse collection of sounding edges — flutes and gumnuts. He maintains a continuing marvel as to the magical origin of flute tones, the seemingly paradoxical phenomena of the stationary wave, and the diffractive interferences and distortions voice and breath can generate. MP uses voice, feedback, recording/playback devices, and verbal notation within different acoustic environments, which are deconstructed and presented to the listener in delicate and degraded ways.
*unfortunately Aiden Smith is no longer able to perform this month… stay tuned for a future appearance !
