Jack Prest, the acclaimed electronic musician, composer and engineer, is excited to announce the album launch tour for The Risk Of Hyperbole - Vol.2 Object. This innovative tour will feature Prest's unique soundscapes and experimental electronic music elevated with improvisations by a chamber ensemble of top Australian classical musicians. Melbourne luminary Aphir will join Jack on tour as a special guest.
Jack's set at the Republic will replicate the methods used in the creation of the album but will be a singular event of improvised electro-acoustic music. Extraordinary musician and producer Aphir will be the main support act, and FSA/BW will open proceedings with their take on avant-garde classical music.
The Risk Of Hyperbole - Vol.2 - Object is Jack Prest's latest release on the Art As Catharsis label, showcasing his mastery of sound manipulation and his ability to push the boundaries of electronic music. The album showcases Prest’s penchant for sub bass drones, tape delay atmospheres and shimmering verbed out electronics.
About Jack Prest:
Jack is an interdisciplinary artist, sound engineer and composer. With a deep technical understanding of sound and training in conceptual art, his practice focuses on experimental electronic music. For Jack that means anything from ambient/textural spaces to hip hop to club focused beats. Viewing the computer and the studio as his main Instruments, pushing the boundaries of electronic music production Is more important than conforming to a specific style or genre.
Jack's debut work as lead artist, The Risk Of Hyperbole, was commissioned by Phoenix Central Park in late 2021. Performance works for which he has previously composed original scores have featured at top international arts centres including Salders Wells (UK), Szigit Festival (Hungary), Arts House, Adelaide Festival, APAM, Carriageworks, Next Wave, Tanz Im August (Germany), La Place (France), Compagnie par Terre (France), Freespace (Hong Kong), Skateistan (Cambodia) and the Sydney Opera House.
Jack is also senior engineer at Studios 301, Australia’s largest recording facility, and is a leading engineer in the Australia independent and alternative music scene. His engineering credits include Godtet, Tasman Keith, Donatachi, Jonti, Stones Throw, Future Classic and Sampa The Great.
About Aphir:
The output of producer and vocalist Becki Whitton has two major streams: intricate and often dark experimental pop, and lush choral works. The Halo Is Shapeless is the latter, a mixture of sublime compositions and vocal arrangements which draw comparisons to Julianna Barwick, Holly Herndon and Kelly Lee Owens. Each track is based on an improvised vocal loop. It’s a mesmerising experience witnessing Whitton create these ten sonic sculptures effectively in real time.
