Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival
October 25 – November 5, 2023
Various times, and venues
SIMA is proud to present its twelfth Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival, a celebration of groundbreaking artistic innovation, diversity and leading women in jazz. Across the 12 nights of extraordinary improvised music, there’ll be adventures in instrumental sound with unique trios Panghalina (MEL/SYD) and Phillippa Murphy-Haste (2023 Freedman Fellow), Paul Cutlan and Mary Rapp. Don’t miss Siblings Flora and Theo Carbo (both Freedman Finalists) who make up half of instrumental Melbourne outfit The Rest Is Silence. We will celebrate the arrival of emerging talents, from the blowtorch saxophone of Tessie Overmyer to gifted bassist/vocalist Sabine Tapia, and trumpeter Sarah Purdon in Sydney project Motion Quartet. Some more highlights from the program: Cécile McLorin Salvant (USA – Three time GRAMMY Award-winning vocalist), Flora Carbo (MELB) & Wilbur Whitta, Tina Harrod + Kate Wadey, Shannon Barnett Quartet (DE/AU) + Tessie Overmyer Trio, Caroline Davis' Alula (USA) + NuovoMondo Symphonies (IT), Freyja Garbett Trio ft. Sandy Evans + Lucy Clifford Trio, SiSi - The Weavers
