Matt McMahon

Matt McMahon is an award-winning pianist and composer from Sydney with a love of music from many traditions. His interests range from jazz to western art music music, traditional Irish music to Flamenco, free improvisation to funk. His solo playing draws on all of these musical influences with a commitment to total improvisation.

He also leads his own groups and has performed in collaboration with artists such as Simon Barker, Vince Jones, Phil Slater, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Joseph Tawadros, Katie Noonan, Tina Harrod, Carl Dewhurst, Gurrumul, Greg Osby, Aaron Goldberg, Bandaluzzia, Daorum, and Sharon Shannon.

Michael J Brady Trio

The Michael J Brady Trio explores the air that exists between 10 strings and a set of drums. Brady's compositions feature folk-like melodies that are woven between intricate instrumental writing. Drawing on a background in indie rock, folk, and modern jazz, this trio’s playing finds a voice that is above all sincere, personal, and in the moment, Since forming, the group has worked with Sandy Evans, and Alex Francouer (Montreal), while also performing alongside a number of emerging acts from the Sydney scene. The trio were the 2023 artists in residence at the UNSW Creative Practice. In July 2023, the group released their debut release Patrick is out now on all streaming services & bandcamp
