A Dread of Voids are a quintet of musicians united here as a loose collective performing pieces specifically written for them by Anthony Pateras.
This concert explores electroacoustic orchestration, auditory hallucination and polytemporality across multiple sonic contexts.

Anthony Pateras is a composer, pianist & electronic musician. At various points over 25 years, his output has speculated on the possibilities of experimental chamber music, prepared instrumental improvisation, acousmatic landscapes, electro-acoustic rock, absurdist music theatre, stochastic grindcore, audio-visual détournement, piano ballads, third-ear sound phenomena, glitched out hip-hop, psycho-acoustic romanticism, orchestral percussion works & solo performance. He has developed a unique musical language situated at the nexus of notation, improvisation and electronics. Consistently diverse in practice, his work interrogates contemporary classical, experimental, soundtrack and rock idioms. For this occasion he has assembled some of his closest collaborators to present a program of intimate psychoacoustic works, creating sonic illusions through delicate orchestration and tape manipulations.

Jessica Aszodi is a literal shape-shifter. An artist, writer and performer, her voice has been praised for its “utmost security and power” (Chicago Tribune). Its unusual range, both in terms of colour and pitch - make it possible to perform repertoire across genres and voice types, where she creates bespoke techniques and concepts from project to project. Jess’ work crosses between opera, experimental music, improvisation, composition, music theatre, and scholarly research.

Rebecca Lane is a musician who explores intonation, focusing on extended just intonation & alternative tuning systems and the perceptual & relational aspects of sounding/activating this material with others. She co-initiated the Harmonic Space Orchestra, a research-performance collective exploring rational tuning/extended just intonation practices along with Marc Sabat & Catherine Lamb, and co-curates the Vibrant Matter sound series with Heather Frasch. Born in Melbourne, Australia, Rebecca is currently based in Berlin.

Karen Heath has performed with Stockhausen, Aphids, Astra, Lior, Ross MacDonald (The Waifs) and Stelarc. She has performed at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Falls and Meredith Festivals, as well as internationally in Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Germany. As composer, Karen has had her works performed in Montreal and Edinburgh (commission from by Piazza Contemporary Collective 2007), Tokyo (2009, 2012 and 2018), Reykjavik (commission from Duo  Harpwerk 2009) and Seville, Spain (2020). She is currently a PhD candidate at Boston University.

Jonathan Heilbron is an Australian composer and performer. He is active in the fields of contemporary, improvised and experimental music. As an interpreter of contemporary music, Jonathan has performed as a soloist and with ensembles across Australia, Europe, North and South America, Asia and the Middle East. He has performed with renowned contemporary music ensembles including Ensemble Musikfabrik, Remix Porto, Klangforum Wien, Apartment House, and the Munich Chamber Orchestra. He has been a member of Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin since 2021.
