TRAVERSING THE VOID - a contemporary pocket chamber opera

A new contemporary pocket opera for one singer and chamber ensemble. Composed by Hildigunnur Rúnarsdóttir with libretto by Josephine Truman with visiting award winning Icelandic soprano Hallveig Rúnarsdóttir and the Kanimbla Quartet. Eight contrasting movements take the listeners on a journey witnessing the Blue Mountains through the eyes of a wild cockatoo. Exploring the dissonances between wild and urbanised spaces, bushfire and related contemporary existential dillemmas.

The evening will open with the Marias Project as special support with Jenny Eriksson (viola de gamba), Susie Bishop (violin and voice) and Tommie Andersson (lute). The Marais Project will perform arrangements of Swedish and Australian Folk music, and in keeping of celebrating the work of women composers on this International Women's Day, they will also be performing a new work by Susie Bishop and two short new works by Hildigunnur Runarsdottir, sung by Hallveig Runarsdottir, Susie Bishop and Josephine Truman. Also featured wil be the "Blue Mountains Suite" by Rebecca Daniel, performed by the Kanimbla Quartet.
