Presenting a night of boundary-pushing and powerful improvised music, from some of the most unique innovators around! This will be the last gig of our Autumn Series but we'll be back in winter!
Doors open: 7:30
Music from 8pm
Set 1: Mary Rapp & Carl Dewhurst
Together, Mary Rapp on cello and vocals, and Carl Dewhurst on guitar and pedals, play improvised songs. The duo create hypnotic, dream-like soundscapes as a platform for Rapp’s visceral and emotive voice. Inspired by p’ansori singer II Dong Bae’s performance with Simon Barker in 2013, Rapp has spent countless hours with Bae singing and exploring vocal textures. His wisdom and generosity have guided Mary in developing her own improvisational language. She has gone on to cultivate this practice with the seminal musician, Carl Dewhurst. Their performances promise a display of no holds barred improvisation.
Set 2: Trevor Brown Trio
Trevor Brown - woodwinds and processing
Roger Dean - piano and preparations
Clayton Thomas - double bass
Versatile reed and woodwind instrumentalist and stoic on the Sydney improvised music scene, Trevor Brown, presents an enthralling improvised set with hand-picked pals. From his conductions of improvising collective S.I.C.K.O. to collaborations with a wide variety of acclaimed musicians, Trevor is always finding new approaches and ideas, and his performances never disappoint.
