It's duo night! Presenting some of Sydney's most accomplished and creative musical innovators, bringing you their incredible sounds, 2 by 2!
Doors open: 7:30pm
Music from 8pm
Alterity (Paul Cutlan and Phillippa Murphy-Haste)
We come together to play the same instruments, but we are also bringing our own voices, so there is the encounter with the 'other'. We take each other out of ourselves and create a new understanding, collectively. The contrasts between our voices creates interest, and new meaning. The musical boundaries between ourselves become less well-defined. This is a nice way to think about our improvisation. We define ourselves in opposition to each other, but also learn from each other’s musical ideas.
Alister and Alexandra Spence
A rare performance together by two distinctive musical explorers
Alexandra Spence is a sound artist and musician living on unceded Wangal land in Sydney. Through her practice Alex attempts to reimagine the intricate relationships between the listener, the object, and the surrounding environment as a kind of communion or
conversation. Her aesthetic favours field recordings, analogue technologies and object interventions.
