CANCELLED - 'PHILLIPPA MURPHY-HASTE & JACQUES EMERY'

  • St Stephens Uniting Church 197 Macquarie Street Sydney, NSW, 2000 Australia (map)

'Rare Faction' an Exploration of intimate sounds with:

Jacques Emery - double bass. Monsieur le Contrebasse. Despite his relatively tender years, Jacques is, in the jazz jargon, a ‘first call’ bassist across a wide range of jazz and improvised musics in Sydney. His recent ‘Summoning’ solo bass recitals were a highlight of the emus calendar.

Phillippa Murphy-Haste - bass clarinet / viola. Best known for her work in the Microfiche ensemble, and duos with fellow reedists Paul Cutlan and Sam Gill, Phillippa recently premiered a major new work ‘Kairos’ with an augmented Microfiche ensemble. This concert falls in the middle of a week-long mini Pip-fest involving performances at the Inner West Jazz Fest (20/10) and SIWJF/MsK&BC (25&26/10).

It would be easier for a double bass to pass through the mouthpiece of a clarinet than to think this will be anything less than special.
