  • Church Street Studios 62-68 Church Street Camperdown, NSW, 2050 Australia (map)

"Monday Night Confessions" is a weekly show presenting original jazz/improvised music. Run out of Church Street Studios in Camperdown, Sydney, we acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, and pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging.

Hikurangi Shaverien-Kaa:

After literal decades of sidemanship as a drummer in the worlds of modern improvised music and popular song, Te Whanganui-a-Tara’s (Wellington, Aotearoa / NZ) Hikurangi Schaverien-Kaa presents a suite of new music under moniker 'The Unknot', signifying the choice to take a little agency in his craft.

The Australian edition of The Unknot features the talents of both recent and more ongoing collaborators of Hikurangi's including Ben Lerner on saxophone (SHEKET), as well as Tom Botting (Antipodes, Callum Allardice) and Luke Sweeting (Antipodes, Callum Allardice).

Alex Jasprizza:

Alex Jasprizza is a saxophonist, composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer who has spent years creating and collaborating in the Sydney scene, having developed a strong presence as a both a writer and performer. Alex’s distinct musical voice and involvement in multiple projects as a co-writer (Beryl, Baldwins) has lead to multiple national tours, a 2024 performance with Beryl at Phoenix Central Park, and the release of several albums and EP’s.
For this solo show, you can expect to hear layered saxophone melodies and warped field recordings come together through improvisation and live electronics. This performance at Monday Night Confessions will celebrate the release of a recent single Ripple, the second single on Alex’s upcoming LP Waterways, scheduled for release in 2025.
