Echo Mapping is a multi–art form duet by electronic musician/composer Jack Prest and street dancer/choreographer Azzam Mohamed that premieres at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in November 2024.
Echo Mapping is about knowing when to listen, when to respond, when to lead, when to follow, when to claim space, when to yield it, and most importantly: when to share it. Raw and unaffected, it strips performance down to a fundamental dialogue between sound and movement.
Prest’s music moves from transcendent textures to thundering beats and ethereal trumpet. Mohamed performs with voice and body, singing traditional Sudanese melodies and building a fluid yet intense choreography. His vocalisations are recorded, looped and manipulated by Prest, becoming part of a sonic atmosphere.
Echo Mapping has been made in collaboration with production manager and lighting technician Neil Simpson, dramaturg Anna Tregloan, and producers Harley Stumm and Malcolm Whittaker of Intimate Spectacle.
There will be an artist talk following the Saturday performance.
