Max Alduca Band (Single Launch) // Wilbur Whitta (Solo)

  • Church Street Studios 62-68 Church Street Camperdown, NSW, 2050 Australia (map)

"Monday Night Confessions" is a weekly show presenting original jazz/improvised music. Run out of Church Street Studios in Camperdown, Sydney, we acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, and pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging.

We’re looking forward to welcoming these two projects the following Monday, with Max Alduca bringing his quintet to launch his new single ‘Scando’ from his upcoming record on Earshift Music. Wilbur Whitta will open with a set of solo piano. This will be our last gig until 20 Jan - so mark your calendars, and come down to Church Street Studios!

Headlining the final gig for 2024! Sydney based double bassist Max Alduca is launching the second single Scando from his upcoming debut album Monastery.

Monastery features seven of Max's original compositions. From introspective ballads to expansive free-flowing improvisations, the album is an exploration of sanctuary through sound and space.

The second single Scando is inspired by the white landscape of winter in Stockholm, Sweden, where this composition was written. The stark but beautiful landscape is reflected sonically by the free flowing melody’s that gradually interweave and build to a climax.

Max is joined by close collaborators and friends Hilary Geddes (guitar), Michael Avgenicos (tenor sax), Luke Sweeting (piano) and James Waples (drums).

Opening the final concert for 2024 is pianist @wilburwhitta performing a new solo work for piano and organ.

Gadigal (Sydney) based pianist and composer Wilbur Whitta presents a new set of improvised music for piano and organ. Inspired by the likes of Craig Taborn, Cory Smythe and Kit Downes, the debut performance of this project will see Wilbur free-soloing between both instruments, navigating in the moment to find new paths up the mountain.
