"Monday Night Confessions" is a weekly show presenting original jazz/improvised music. Run out of Church Street Studios in Camperdown, Sydney, we acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, and pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging.
We’re looking forward to welcoming these two projects the following Monday, with Ragan Kang (trombonist and composer) debuting a new project, and Mary Rapp (cello, voice) bringing her trio featuring Carl Dewhurst (guitar) and Simon Barker (drums) to Church Street for the first time. Not many more Mondays left for the year, so make sure you get along before it’s too late!
Mary Rapp (voice, cello, bass), Simon Barker (drums), and Carl Dewhurst (guitar) form a dynamic improvising trio that transcends musical boundaries, blending their varied expertise to create a unique sonic experience. Mary’s strong textural singing complements Simon’s extraordinary drumming and Carl's versatile guitar work, resulting in a rich tapestry of sound that draws from jazz, contemporary, and experimental styles. Together, they explore intricate soundscapes that invite listeners into a dialogue of spontaneous creativity, showcasing their collective passion for innovation and artistic expression in every performance.
"Harmless” is a brand new band led by Sydney-based trombonist and composer Ragan Kang. Featuring a unique instrumental setup with three horns and a rhythm section without any harmonic instrument. This exciting new Quintet was created to explore compositional ideas using intricate counter points that have been inspired by the vocal emotions of the human voice. The band will play Ragan’s original compositions, inspired by his childhood memories as a dedication to his late grandfather.
