APOPHENIA

  • Red House RSVP Earlwood, NSW (map)

The People's Republic is thrilled to welcome one of Sydney's most captivating musical experiences to the Red House for the first time, creating a new improvised soundscape to accompany one of the most celebrated films of the silent era...

Jay Dahzen - Keyboards, Melodica, Vocals
Michael Trifunovic - Guitar
Anthony - Drums
Valerios Calocerinos - Double Bass

SUNDAY December 8th at 7 p.m. [doors at 6.30]

Apohphenia is a musical experiment; an improvisational quartet creating music that is always in flux, building sprawling improvised soundscapes. Never static, Apophenia explore the sounds as they unfold. Evocative moments of restful space build to charged moments, balancing discord and harmony.

Apophenia is a term used to describe a moment or condition in which humans and animals make connections between unrelated things, giving them meaning.
Playing on this idea, tonight Apophenia will perform accompanied by the 1920 film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, inverting the traditions of musical score for film and allowing the audience to make their own connections between sound and image.
