During the opening week of the exhibition Infinite: Dobell Australian Drawing Biennial 2024 at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, multidisciplinary artist Emma Fielden will debut her performance drawing From Breath.

A classical flautist and metalsmith, Fielden will play a large, handcrafted silver flute during each hour-long performance, dragging it across the surface of a black canvas laid on the floor to produce a silverpoint drawing. Each mark on the canvas represents the length of a breath given voice through the flute.

This drawing performance forms part of the artist’s installation in Infinite: Dobell Australian Drawing Biennial 2024 and takes place within the exhibition space.
