Chris Cody + Charlie Tait 'Under Ocean' (Album Launch) // Words Fail + Jim Denley

  • Church Street Studios 62-68 Church Street Camperdown, NSW, 2050 Australia (map)

Monday Night Confessions is a weekly show presenting original jazz/improvised music. Run out of Church Street Studios in Camperdown, Sydney, we acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, and pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging.

𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐝𝐲 + 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐢𝐭 '𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐎𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐧' (𝐀𝐥𝐛𝐮𝐦 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡):

Pianist and composer Chris Cody and sound artist Charlie Tait met last year, forming a new friendship and collaboration around their different music practice.

This exciting new project uses solo piano, sound effects, electronics and other instruments to create large soundscapes. Coming from different backgrounds, cultures and generations, Cody and Tait seek through dialogue and practice-based experimentation to create and perform new music that combines jazz and classical with contemporary electronic music. Together, they create new emotionally charged sonic landscapes that are both lyrical and expansive, evoking a range of emotions and imagined places and moods.

Chris Cody is an internationally renowned jazz pianist, composer and producer. He has worked with many outstanding international musicians around the world and released over 14 albums of his music. Charlie Tait has achieved international acclaim with his solo project Cambio Sun. Currently, Charlie works as a producer and engineer, at his purpose-built studio, The Confectionery, in Newtown.

𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐥 + 𝐉𝐢𝐦 𝐃𝐞𝐧𝐥𝐞𝐲:
The trio of Chris Abrahams (piano), Clayton Thomas (bass & preparations), & Miles Thomas (drums & percussion), Words Fail is an intergenerational meeting of the minds. Words Fail's second time performing at Monday Night Confessions will feature a special guest, the one and only Jim Denley (alto saxophone).

Words Fail is a piano trio that can sound like a mechanised auto-factory and an industrial scale Gamelan processing its own consciousness in the metaverse (that swings!). The point being – Chris Abrahams (the Necks), Clayton Thomas (BELIEVE) and Miles Thomas (Pen Island) are committed to finding new sounds for old instruments. With the addition of Jim Denley (one of the world's foremost improvisers) this collective of friends and colleagues promise a night of music that defies expectations.
