Gadigal/Sydney based pianist and composer Wilbur Witta presents a new set of improvised music for piano and organ.
Originally hailing from Canberra/Ngunnawal, Wilbur has performed across the globe, and is a mainstay of the Sydney jazz and improvised music community. He has appeared alongside acclaimed international artists Kit Downes and Will Vinson, was selected as a finalist in the Australian NaDonal Jazz Awards, and, while living in London, won the UK-based Dankworth Jazz Composition Award. He currently leads his band “Wildfire”, who released their debut album this year on ABC Jazz.
This performance draws on Wilbur’s recent sonic explorations with digital organs, and is inspired by solo improvised works from the likes of pianists Craig Taborn, Paul Bley, Masabumi Kikuchi and Kit Downes. The set will see Wilbur free-soloing between both piano and organ, navigating in the moment to find new paths up the mountain.
