Embedded music residency Rachel Lyn

  • Art Gallery of New South Wales The Domain Sydney, NSW, 2000 (map)

Join Yuin multidisciplinary sound creator Rachel Lyn for this performance inspired by the art on display in the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Born in Australia and currently based in Berlin, Germany, Lyn is the inaugural artist in our Embedded music residency program, which fosters new music creation, live performances and recorded works inspired by the themes and concepts present in the Art Gallery’s collection and exhibitions.

During her residency between 20 and 24 January 2025, Lyn will create original sound compositions inspired by the art that has drawn her in, resonated with her, and offered moments for deep sonic exploration. Moving between the fluid boundaries of sound, musicianship and composition, her experimental approach to production and performance will evolve as it embraces non-musical layering inspired by the art that has informed it.

Lyn’s work centres around weaving sound into environments and narratives, using a combination of modular synthesis, hardware and software to create distinctive auditory experiences. Each performance is unique and shaped by the space.

In the last two years, Lyn has performed across the globe at theatres and institutions such as Silent Green in Berlin and Tate Modern in London, including a site-specific performance near Mt Etna in Italy.
