Rare Faction / Tony Buck & Alister Spence

  • Stadium Rockdale 5 Tramway Arcade Rockdale, NSW, 2216 Australia (map)

'Rare Faction' an Exploration of intimate sounds with:

Jacques Emery - double bass. Monsieur le Contrebasse. Despite his relatively tender years, Jacques is, in the jazz jargon, a ‘first call’ bassist across a wide range of jazz and improvised musics in Sydney. His recent ‘Summoning’ solo bass recitals were a highlight of the emus calendar.

Phillippa Murphy-Haste - clarinets / viola. Best known for her work in the Microfiche ensemble, and duos with fellow reedists Paul Cutlan and Sam Gill, Phillippa recently premiered a major new work ‘Kairos’ with an augmented Microfiche ensemble.

Tony Buck & Alister Spence

Alister Spence - piano, prepared piano, percussion
Tony Buck - drums, percussion

Spence and Buck share a fascination with submerged rhythm, oblique extended forms, entwined interplay, and sound for its own sake. As contemporaries their musical histories have run in parallel—and occasionally intersecting—for the last thirty years. For the last five years or so they have been enjoying re-connecting musically.

Doors from 7:30.
This is an intimate parlour gig so be prepared to get cozy. Unfortunately the only way in is up some stairs so please keep that in mind. We are so looking forward to listening all together.
