PULP ISSUE 19 LAUNCH

  • Manning Bar, University of Sydney Level 2 Manning Road Camperdown, NSW, 2050 Australia (map)

PULP MAGAZINE IS BACK. IN. BLACK.

On March the 6th at Manning Bar PULP Magazine will be launching their black and white 19th issue. They've been working hard over the holidays to bring you their baddest issue yet.

Available will be a limited tab, fresh Mexican food from Manning Cantina, and some of Eora's best offerings of live music including...

Manfredo Lament: Manfredo Lament is a fully improvised, groove-based project led by Kurt Lam on synth and keys, and Gabriel Haslam on drums. Along with their rotating cast of musicians that form the band, Manfredo Lament have cemented their place in the Australian music scene, spearheading a new generation of improvised and instrumental bands in Sydney.

Hinano Fujisaki: Sydney-based saxophonist, improviser, and composer presents ‘home is’ – music written as a thank you to everyone who has made her feel at home. Featuring Jacques Emery on the double bass, Bonnie Stewart on drums and voice and Lauren Tsamouras on the piano, her music weaves folkloric melodies against different soundscapes and textures, evoking nostalgic memories and feelings of warmth and safety.

Heartholder: Eora/Sydney-based producer and instrumentalist Heartholder steps into a new musical lane while paying homage to boundary-pushing nu jazz and electronic music in Australia and globally. Inspired by artists as diverse as Yussef Dayes, Vegyn, Overmono, Nala Sinephro, RJD2, Skin On Skin, and corto.alto, heartholder creates an eclectic fusion of modern jazz and club sounds marked by distorted saxophone and chopped acoustic breaks mixed with vocals inspired by UK grime and drill. With contrast always firmly at the centre, live performance and elements of improvisation weave between glitched samples and heavy subs.
