Hilary Geddes and Harley Coleman are two of Sydney’s most dynamic guitarists and improvisers. Drawing inspiration from duetting guitarists such as Mary Halvorson and Joel Harrison, as well as John Scofield and John Abercrombie, they will perform two sets of music that celebrate the idiosyncrasies of the guitar.
Hilary Geddes is a guitarist, improviser and composer based in Eora/Sydney on Gadigal Land. She is the 2021 Freedman Jazz Fellow, a 2021 ABC Jazz Scholarship recipient, and the 2019 recipient of the Jann Rutherford Memorial Award. Hilary is the bandleader of the Hilary Geddes Quartet, and released her AIR-nominated debut album 'Parkside' (ABC Jazz) in 2021. Hilary works as an in-demand guitarist in the Australian jazz and improvised music scenes, performing alongside jazz luminaries such as Mike Nock, Lakecia Benjamin (USA), Laurence Pike, Harley Coleman and Jonathan Zwartz.
Harley Coleman is a musician of many worlds. Primarily a jazz & improvising guitarist/ composer, he also traverses popular & experimental music as a composer & multi-instrumentalist, and is quickly solidifying his presence as a dynamic voice within the Sydney creative music scene.
“reflects the unbound creativity of Sydney's new-gen of improvising musicians” – SIMA.
