Evenings at Peggy's 11

  • Peggy's Sydney, NSW, 2000 Australia (map)

Next up at Peggy's on Monday,  October 16th at 7pm:

Jane Sheldon (voice)
Zubin Kanga (piano, electronics)

Sydney currently enjoys the presence of two of the top performers in the world of new music. Still early in their careers, they have collaborated with the who’s who of composers (Zorn,  Adès, Reich, etc) at the where where of festivals and venues (BBC Proms, Lincoln Centre, Huddersfield, Metropolitan Opera, etc) and this evening will explore the more unusual and sometimes extreme techniques of new music with works by Czernowin, Lachermann, Kanga, and Sheldon.

An intertwining of the intellectual and visceral has become a calling card of Kanga’s... Going where many other pianists fear to tread.      Limelight Magazine

From Sheldon, we heard soft tones that were hushed, purple, quasi-onomatopoeic, and much more; we heard something closer to speech and we heard snatches of operatic vocalism…There could be no gainsaying the virtuosity of the performers.      Seen and Heard International

After the music, Jane and Zubin will be heard in conversation with Stephen Adams of ABC radio. The evenings will be recorded, becoming a New Waves podcast on the ABC website.
