SUNDAY 27th August
COMMENCING AT 7.30 P.M. [doors at 7.00 p.m.]

Splinter Orchestra
is a Sydney based large-scale ensemble, consisting of a fluctuating number of members with various musical backgrounds.  It has been testing the limits and breaking through the conceptual boundaries of the “orchestral” since 2002.  Splinter Orchestra’s primary aims are innovation, exploration and co-creation. The nature and structure of the ensemble, as a large scale improvising orchestra, is progressive and experimental.

In recent years the orchestra has been furthering its collective research in the Australian bush and discovering the potential of integrating the sonic world of natural environs into their music.  This impulse saw the group record their second album, Mungo (3CD set) in and around the ancient NSW lake bed.  They are an annual fixture of Sydney’s Now Now Festival and regulars at its concert series throughout the year.  In 2016 they were special guests at Tectonic, a 2 day Festival of experimental music within the Adelaide International Festival of Arts.
