The Unutterable 'Group Exhibition'

'The Unutterable' is a new showcase of Sydney artists and performers investigating the power of images in media to impact consciousness and thinking.

Our image-mediated culture has an incalculable impact on our senses of personality, lifestyles and dreams, to the extent that our individual experiences can at times feel commodified and reflective of some one else's vision of 'being'.

Is it possible to step outside the spectacles which occupy our digital, economic and political spheres to create our own authentic worlds, or are we inextricably tied to collective histories and popular culture, destined to float between waves of lifestyles and images manufactured for us?

Neurotic Bandit is the rap ego of Charlie Sundborn and was conceived in 2014 out of teenage anxiety and garageband. At 16, he huddled beneath blankets at 3am, recording clipped verses into the inbuilt mic, then arriving at school the next day, sleepless and homework-less. Nowadays, Neurotic Bandit (in some form) can be seen on stage with the band Sagrada familiar, and heard online with headphones or speakers. This is NB's first and maybe last public set.

The Pen Club is an improvising band that experiments with form, rhythm and writing implements. They are the first and perhaps only improvising band to be endorsed by BIC, the world leader in stationary. For more than 60 years, BIC has honoured the tradition of providing high-quality, simple, inventive and reliable choices for everyone, everywhere, every time and in that fashion BIC has made the reliable and inventive choice to endorse the wonderful Australian band ‘The Pen Club’.

Tonight band member Felix Bornholdt (Pen 2) is away on other important BIC business, so you will hear from another pianist BIC admires greatly Matt Harris (Pen 4).
