Friends of adventurous music we are closing out the year with a wonderful evening to wrap your ears around. The fabulous Alon Ilsar @airsticksguy and BONO (Novak Manojlovic and Jetsetter herself Bonnie Stewart) or @gentle_novak and @bonniesongs

Alon Ilsar is a drummer, improviser, instrument designer and researcher. He is currently an Artistic Associate at Speak Percussion and an ARC Industry Fellow at Monash University’s SensiLab researching the uses of the AirSticks; a gestural instrument he invented, in the field of health and well being, making music creation more accessible to the broader community. 

For this electro-acoustic solo improvisation, Alon will augment his drumming through the use of wearable gestural devices that help him sample, manipulate and redefine his acoustic kit playing. The improvisation is part of a larger audio-visual piece, Cymbalism, which Alon is currently developing to premiere in late 2025.

BoNo is Bonnie Stewart (Voice/effects) and Novak Manojlovic (Piano/effects) rifling through their sonic libraries and running the findings through a slew of pedals and extended processes in pursuit of stillness. Augmenting their renowned individual creative voices with electronic treatments, the duo draw on their multitude of experience as improvisors in different contexts, their occasional bush walks and their collaborations in Stewart’s ‘Bonniesongs’ to extract spinning soundscapes, subtle song forms and unique textures from old and new technologies.
