After five years, perhaps the most spectacular ensemble ever to grace the "stage" at The People's Republic will return to adorn The Red House next month.

In a playing career that has spanned nearly 50 years, Dave Ellis has been a member of the West Australian and Sydney Symphony Orchestras, the Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust Orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Australian Contemporary Music Ensemble and the contemporary Flamenco group, Arrebato Ensemble.

He has performed with a huge range of artists including Peggy Lee, George Benson, Antony and the Johnsons, Eartha Kitt, Milt Jackson, Al Jarreau, Jon Rose, Louis Burdett, Rik Rue, Jeannie Lewis, SCRA (Southern Contemporary Rock Assembly), Keith Humble and the legendary Barre Phillips, with whom he played in a remarkable bass quintet at the People's Republic way back in 2011.



Dave writes... "a bunch of young guns and a couple of old codgers contributing to a concept of collective, collaborative, celebratory, contrabass(ic) creation. Exploration of any (all) area(s) of musical expression is encouraged, expected and, indeed, mandated! Our members share a love of our chosen instrument and its expressive qualities and possibilities...
